As a change agent, our studio uses design strategies that are client-focused, resource-aware and purposeful.

Studio

This. That. Therefore.

STUDIOFANG believes architecture can unlock a sensibility or sensation about a site or space (that may be previously intangible or unrecognised), and through design speak and create cultural, phenomenological and functional value.

STUDIOFANG adopts PassiveHouse principles as our scientific approach to achieve occupant health & comfort, and energy efficiencies, by optimising building performance.

STUDIOFANG employs an iterative process between these two fields to conceive a wholistic built result as action and description of our human evolution in our climate-changing zeitgeist, and strike balance between making our place and knowing our place.

Our Values

Aesthetics inseparable from performance.

The synthesis of two generalist fields - architecture and physics. Wholistic, pushing boundaries on the aesthetic and existential pursuit of architecture with informed parameters of physics. Not tethered but reinforced.

Elevate ordinary with delight and imbue routine with meaning.

Existential dasein.

Process - Fast and Slow

Modelmaking and computers, tactile and paperless. We enjoy this process.

No guesswork

Passivehouse is physics-based design-tool that can quantify building performance to achieve comfortable and healthy buildings with low-energy demands. This means a building with constant fresh air, with internal temperature range from 20-25 deg C, 40-60% relative humidity all year round, regardless of season or geolocation.

Invisible and visible

What we don’t know, what we are yet to know

On the only planet we have, we are here for good.

As we consider the energy impact of new buildings we design, our practice runs on 100% green energy, as we pursue a carbon neutral workflow and footprint.

Fang Cheah

Architect + Passivehouse Designer

Fang Cheah has practiced as an architect with the award-winning architectural & interior design firm McBride Charles Ryan in Melbourne, RMJM in London, and K2LD in Singapore.

He has accumulated over 20 years architectural experience on a myriad of residential, institutional and commercial projects in design & documentation team leader, and project architect roles.

In 2010, Fang co- founded FORTH, a Singapore-based research and design workshop that specialises in exploring community stories, conceptualising them into temporary installations, gallery projects or store furniture.

Fang has taught and critiqued architecture design and construction at his alma mater University of Melbourne. He is a registered architect with the Architects Registration Board of Victoria since 2006, and a certified Passive House Designer since 2018.
