What is Passivhaus

Continuous insulation

An insulated layer across floor, walls and roof to minimise heat or cold transfer.

Passivhaus is a rigorous, quantifiable building standard that delivers exceptional comfort with ultra-low energy demand.

Quiet, stable, healthy interiors that perform as beautifully as they look.

Performance is design made quantifiable.

Passivhaus Principles

Passivhaus is not a bolt-on - it lives or dies by design: orientation, form, proportion and detailing must be conceived together so architectural intent and building physics reinforce each other, unlocking both performance and spatial quality.

High-performing glazing

Triple-glazed, well-oriented windows harvest sunlight while keeping warmth in and heat out.

Airtightness

A carefully sealed envelope stops drafts and uncontrolled energy leakage.

Thermal-bridge free

Junctions are meticulously detailed so no heat or cold can enter or escape.

Heat recovery ventilation

Filtered fresh air is supplied continuously, with heat recycled for comfort and efficiency.

Passivhaus Design

Aesthetics inseparable from performance.

The synthesis of two generalist fields - architecture and physics. Wholistic, pushing boundaries on the aesthetic and existential pursuit of architecture with informed parameters of physics. Not tethered but reinforced.

Elevate ordinary with delight and imbue routine with meaning.

Existential dasein.

Process - Fast and Slow

Modelmaking and computers, tactile and paperless. We enjoy this process.

No guesswork

Passivehouse is physics-based design-tool that can quantify building performance to achieve comfortable and healthy buildings with low-energy demands. This means a building with constant fresh air, with internal temperature range from 20-25 deg C, 40-60% relative humidity all year round, regardless of season or geolocation.

Invisible and visible

What we don’t know, what we are yet to know

On the only planet we have, we are here for good.

As we consider the energy impact of new buildings we design, our practice runs on 100% green energy, as we pursue a carbon neutral workflow and footprint.
